Time is going on ... where are they now ?
One year ago, I wrote a short article about "Garden of Desire",
a notable jewelry designer out of the ordinary, located in Siem Reap and Phnom
Penh.
This article has been published by the "Journal of Cambodia", a
french blog done on voluntary work and with a large audience.
Unfortunately, for various reasons, the editor of this blog has stopped
his publication, thus depriving us of a source of high quality information on
Cambodia.
I took the initiative to resume this article and to place it in an other blog.
Time passes and I am curious about the future of these artisans who one
day, caught my attention.
What has become of this jewelry which I appreciate the creations, but also
all his team leaded by Ly Pisith, designer and owner of the places?
My curiosity was completely full !!!
A promising and enviable path …
whatever in Cambodia (The
Phnom Penh Post) but also international (New York Times).
He is also present in several journals as SOVRIN and to day, his artistic
creations adorn the most beautiful
models of several fashion shows.
Here is also an international recognition. Ly Pisith wins the trophy for
the best jewelery designer in South East Asia. A trophy awarded by an
international jury during the Innovative Craft Award, held in Bangkok from 19
March 2015 to 21 March 2015.
The event brings together 300 exhibitors from over 30 foreign countries
and attracted over three days, more than 20 000 visitors.
This year, the theme of the event was wisdom ("Inspired by
wisdom").
The jury awarded the trophy for best designer of jewels to Ly Pisith. The
jury has appreciated how the designer
jewelry pays tribute to his country by the use of Angkorian sandstone,
exquisitely carved and enhanced with sterling silver (silver first title to
92.5%).
Forever a path forward looking …
Ly Pisith keeps intact his power to create new models again and again.
Regularly, new creations appear, always different, proof of his
imaginative power that seems to never fall.
Each of his creations is an open book, a story of life, where nature and all symbols mix closely.
Ly Pisith remains faithful about his demanding philosophy which guides his
work as a designer.
"It's too
easy to make jewels just by following only a tendency. The true creations need
a really intense work, more deeper, and very personal. There is no creativity,
no art if the work just consists to follow what flatters. I draw my creations
as if they are a story. Through them, the jewel expresses a personality and the
wearer can identify himself with it"
Garden of Desire ... a festival of creations
Some creations to discover among many others ...
